Mocktails are here to stay

A few years ago I was diagnosed with the hormonal imbalance disorder, PCOS. It took a long time for me to figure out my body and what worked best for me and this new diagnosis. It turns out a lot of what I was doing that was deemed “healthy”, and to someone who was not struggling with their hormones it was, I was actually making my symptoms worse.

One of the biggest hormonal disrupters for me I found to be alcohol. And I love a spicy margarita and my glass, or two, of chardonnay. This was definitely a harder shift for me to make but once I felt my body healing I couldn’t go back. Don’t get me wrong, I still love my favorite drink every once and a while - everything in moderation is key. But now instead of the two glasses of wine and a cocktail at dinner, I may have one cocktail and move to mocktails.

Another trick that helped me keep my inflammation low was having mocktails at home instead of the glass of wine at dinner. They are so fun to make, refreshing, and I swear have a little placebo effect! Trust me, you can have fun without having that tequila. More cocktail recipes to come!

Here are some of my go-to recipe:

CHERRY GINGER LIMEADE

  • Topo chico (or sparkling water of choice)

  • 1 lime

  • 1 teaspoon zested ginger

  • 1 splash (teaspoon or so) of cherry concentrate

BLUEBERRY MOJITO

  • Topo chico (or sparkling water of choice)

  • Handful of blueberries + 2 mint leaves muddled

  • 1/2 squeezed lemon

  • Mint leave to garnish

GINGER POMEGRANITE SPLASH

  • 1/2 can of ginger beer

  • 1/4 cup pomegranate juice

  • Squeeze of lemon

  • Top off with Topo Chico (or sparkling water of choice)
